Hike from Mosteiros to Chã das Caldeiras

Duration: approx. 5-6 hours

The starting point for this hike is Mosteiros or the small village of Pai Antonio. The hike, which begins at a steep incline, leads past orange and coffee plantations to the prehistoric looking eucalyptus forest of Monte Verde. The last part of the hike guides you through the impressive volcanic landscape to Chã das Caldeiras. This incredible hike offers fertile valleys, coniferous forests, breathtaking views of the Pico de Fogo as well as traces of past volcanic eruptions, almost everything a hiker’s heart desires.

 

Hike from Ribeira Filipe to Ponta da Salina

Duration: approx. 3 hours

This hike starts at the outskirts of Ribeira Filipe and ends at the natural pool of Ponta da Salina. Breathtaking sea views and lush vegetation are constant companions on this hike. In the small village of São Jorge you have the opportunity to stop for a bite to eat before you take the last short stretch to Ponta da Salina.

 

Hike from Monte Vermelho to Cova Figueira

Duration: approx. 4 hours

From Monte Vermelho you descend to the small coastal town of Alcatraz. From there it goes along the coast mostly on lava fields to Fajã. In the last part, a shadowless climb leads from Fajã up to Cova de Figueira.

 

Hike from São Lourenço to Achada Malva

Duration: approx. 2 hours

This short hike impresses with its volcanic contrasts. From the sun-baked town of São Lourenco to the green and fertile oasis of Achada Malva, you will experience the full range of volcanic beauty. On a clear day you will be able to see the contours of the neighboring island of Brava on the horizon.

 

Hike from Chã das Caldeiras to Bordeira

Duration: approx. 5-6 hours

The hike starts in the small village of Portela in Chã das Caldeiras. From there, you walk at the foot of the Bordeira wall to the Monte Velha Natural Park. Shortly before entering the cloud forest, an inconspicuous path on your left leads through a small forest up the steep Caldeira wall up to Montinho. The following descent takes you back to the green natural park of Monte Velha. From there an unsurfaced road leads back to the entrance of Chã das Caldeiras.
